PTE Course in Bangladesh: Speaking, Writing, Reading and Listening Preparation

PTE Academic is a computer-based English proficiency test scored entirely by AI, with some human review added from August 2025 for certain tasks. 

It runs for approximately two hours and fifteen minutes across three main parts: Speaking and Writing, Reading, and Listening. Scores range from 10 to 90, and the test is accepted by the Australian Department of Home Affairs for all visa categories.

What You Are Tested On

The Speaking section contains seven question types: Read Aloud, Repeat Sentence, Describe Image, Re-tell Lecture, Answer Short Question, and the two newer tasks added from 7 August 2025: Summarise Group Discussion and Respond to a Situation.



Your responses are scored on oral fluency, pronunciation, and content. According to Pearson's own guidance, hesitations, repetitions, and false starts negatively affect your fluency score. 

Pearson assesses oral fluency, pronunciation, and content. Speaking naturally and avoiding unnecessary hesitations generally leads to better fluency scores. 

Read Aloud is one of the most influential Speaking tasks because it contributes to multiple scoring criteria. You get 30 to 40 seconds to prepare before the microphone opens, and you need to read the text on screen with clear pronunciation and natural intonation. Most courses teach students to use that preparation window to break the text into chunks using punctuation as a guide.

Repeat Sentence is the task that catches many students off guard. You hear a sentence once and must repeat it back. It contributes points to both Speaking and Listening scores. 

Higher scores generally come from repeating the sentence accurately and in the correct order. Getting 60 to 70% of the sentence right in perfect sequence scores better than getting more words but breaking the sequence.

The Two New Tasks from August 2025

Summarise Group Discussion asks you to listen to a three-minute conversation between three people, then speak for up to two minutes summarising the main points. Respond to a Situation gives you a real-life scenario and 40 seconds to respond naturally.

Both tasks include a human review component for content. Pearson advises responding naturally in your own words rather than relying on memorised templates. 

You have to respond in your own words based on what you heard or read. A course that was updated after August 2025 will teach you strategies specifically for both of these tasks.

What Courses Teach

Good PTE coaching in Bangladesh covers daily spoken practice with recordings, trainer feedback on fluency, and specific strategies for each task type. Students record their responses, listen back, and identify where they are pausing, rushing, or mispronouncing. That self-review habit is built during the course and matters more than most people expect.

Writing: Precision Matters More Than Word Count

The Two Writing Tasks

The Writing section in PTE Academic has two task types: Summarize Written Text and Write Essay.

In Summarize Written Text, you read a passage and write a single sentence of between 5 and 75 words that captures the main idea. You have 10 minutes per task. If you write more than one sentence, you score zero for the form component. Pearson's guidance states that the sentence must begin with a capital letter and end with a full stop, and that grammar, vocabulary, and content are all scored separately.

The ideal response is usually between 35 and 50 words. Long enough to include the key points, short enough to stay coherent in a single sentence.

Write Essay requires a 200 to 300 word argumentative essay in 20 minutes. Pearson's scoring guide lists seven factors: content, development, structure and coherence, form, grammar, vocabulary, and spelling. 

Writing fewer than 200 words or more than 380 words results in zero for the form criterion, which can significantly reduce your overall essay score. Most trainers suggest aiming for just over 200 words and using the remaining time to check grammar and vocabulary errors.

From August 2025, a hybrid scoring model applies to certain writing tasks. AI handles technical mechanics like grammar and vocabulary, while human reviewers check content relevance. Generic or templated responses are more likely to be flagged under this updated system.

What Courses Teach

PTE courses in Bangladesh focus on teaching a structured writing approach for each task. For Summarise Written Text, students learn to identify the main idea quickly and construct a complex sentence that links key points without adding personal opinion or extra information not in the passage.

For the essay, trainers teach a four-paragraph structure: introduction, two body paragraphs, and a short conclusion. Students practice writing concisely within the word count rather than padding. They also learn to proofread for the specific errors the AI targets, such as subject-verb agreement, article usage, and plural forms.

Reading: Speed and Strategy Over Deep Analysis

What the Section Contains

The Reading section lasts 29 to 30 minutes and contains five task types: Reading and Writing Fill in the Blanks, Multiple Choice Multiple Answers, Re-order Paragraphs, Reading Fill in the Blanks, and Multiple Choice Single Answer.

Re-order Paragraphs is where students drag randomly ordered text boxes into the correct logical sequence. Partial credit applies, with each correctly placed adjacent pair earning points. You typically get two to three of these tasks. The approach taught in courses is to identify the topic sentence first, which will not start with a linker word or a pronoun referring back to something, then build from there using connectors and pronouns to establish sequence.

Fill in the Blanks has two versions. The dropdown version asks you to choose from options next to each gap. The drag-and-drop version gives you a word bank with more words than gaps. Both versions reward students who can read context around each blank and match grammar and meaning simultaneously.

Multiple Choice Multiple Answers has negative marking; a wrong selection deducts one point, while a correct selection earns one point. Students need to be confident before selecting any answer, and courses typically teach an elimination strategy rather than a selection strategy.

What Courses Teach

Reading preparation focuses on reading speed and vocabulary range. Students in Bangladeshi PTE courses often practice skimming a passage to grasp its main topic before reading for detail. For Fill in the Blanks, the common advice is to read two or three sentences around each gap, not just the single sentence containing the blank.

Listening: Active Focus From the First Second

What the Section Contains

The Listening section runs for 30 to 43 minutes and contains eight task types. Each audio recording is played once only. You cannot replay any clip.

Summarize Spoken Text requires a 50 to 70 word written summary after listening to a 60 to 90 second recording. You have 10 minutes to write it. Writing fewer than 50 or more than 70 words results in a zero score for the form component, regardless of the content quality.

Write From Dictation is the final task in the section, and one of the highest-impact tasks in the entire exam. Every correctly spelled word earns one point toward your Listening score and one point toward your Writing score. With three to four sentences appearing per exam, this task alone can significantly shift both scores in either direction.

Highlight Incorrect Words and Multiple Choice Multiple Answers both have negative marking. Incorrect selections deduct one point each, which means guessing randomly costs more than leaving a question blank.

What Courses Teach

PTE listening preparation in Bangladesh centres on active note-taking. Because each audio plays only once, students cannot go back. Courses teach a shorthand system: abbreviations for common words, symbols for ideas, quick jottings of names and numbers as the audio plays. 

For Summarise Spoken Text, the course focuses on organising notes into the main idea, two or three supporting points, and a concluding thought before they start typing. For Write From Dictation, courses focus on listening for meaning rather than trying to catch every individual word, then using grammar knowledge to reconstruct the sentence accurately.

Students also practice on audio from different English accents, since PTE Academic includes speakers from various English-speaking countries, and the AI recognises regional varieties of English pronunciation.
